Women's Hockey Falls 4-2 on Saturday

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-17-2, 1-10-1 CHA) fell 4-2 in the series finale with Mercyhurst (11-10-3, 8-3-0 CHA) on Saturday in Erie, Pa.
 
Lindenwood was outplayed in the opening period, but Sophie Wolf made 12 saves to keep it a 0-0 game heading into the first intermission.  Sierra Burt put the Lions on the board with a goal at the 7:08 mark of the second period to take a 1-0 lead.  Nikki Friesen scored less than seven minutes later to make it a 2-0 lead over the Lakers.
 
Mercyhurst stayed with it through the period and found a goal at the 18:26 mark of the second frame.  Lindenwood committed a penalty which allowed the Lakers to add another goal with less than 30 seconds to go in the period, resulting in a 2-2 tie heading into the third.  Mercyhurst poured on the shots in the third period as they registered 34 total, with 14 being on goal.  The Lakers scored twice in the first half of the period to take a 4-2 lead and swept the Lions on the weekend.
 
Mercyhurst compiled 82 shots in the game with 37 being on goal, while the Lions had 37 total shots and 23 on net.  The Lakers went 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Lions were 0-for-4 on the man advantage.  Lindenwood struggled in the faceoff circle as they won just 18 of the 57 draws.

Lindenwood will return to Lindenwood Ice Arena on Friday, February 8 to open a two-game series with RIT at 6 p.m.  The Lions will hold their annual Pink the Rink weekend against the Tigers.
