GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood men's basketball team (11-10, 4-5 MIAA) was unable to cool off one of the hottest teams in the MIAA on Saturday afternoon from Hyland Arena, suffering a 76-71 loss at the hands of Northeastern State. Including Saturday's win, the RiverHawks have now won five straight MIAA games, the second-longest streak in the conference.
After trading buckets to start the game, Lindenwood took the first big lead of the afternoon on a fastbreak layup from
Chris King with 10:07 remaining in the half. King's layup sent the Lions ahead by a score of 19-11.
Northeastern State responded with a 21-6 run over the next 5:50, flipping what was an eight-point deficit into a six-point lead.
Lindenwood trimmed the Northeastern State lead to five points entering halftime with the score 36-31 in favor of the visitors.
The RiverHawks began the second half on an 11-2 run over the first 3:25 of play, growing their lead to a commanding 14-point margin. Northeastern State protected its lead deep into the half, and were up on Lindenwood by the same 14-point lead with just 2:09 left in regulation.
With just 97 seconds left in the game,
Adam Pohlman converted on an and-one layup to bring the score to 69-58 in favor of Northeastern State.
The Lions successfully trimmed the RiverHawk lead to as few as five points in the closing seconds, but were unable to get any closer. Northeastern State prevailed by a final score of 76-71.
