Men's Soccer Knocks Off No. 2 Maryville

The Lindenwood men's soccer team defeated the No. 2 Maryville Saints on by a 4-2 final score on Sunday afternoon from St. Louis, Mo. With the win, Lindenwood improves its record to 5-4-2 on the season and 4-3-2 from within the GLVC.

MATCH OVERVIEW
The second-ranked Saints got on the scoreboard first during Sunday's match, taking a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the match.

Lindenwood answered quickly, evening the score in the 17th minute as Joshua Scholl tallied his second goal in as many games with a header off of a corner kick. Leon Silva was credited with an assist on the play,

Just over four minutes later, Silva put Lindenwood on top with a blast from nearly 20 yards out, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead.

Lindenwood saw its lead grow to a 3-1 margin in the 31st minute as Luke McBeth ripped a free kick from the top of the box into the right side of the goal.

The Lions held their two-goal lead through halftime and into the second half.

In the 50th minute of play, Lindenwood saw its lead swell to 4-1 as McBeth assisted Thomas Hutcheson off of a breakaway chance.

The Lions were issued a red card in the 70th minute, forcing the team to play down a man for the remainder of the match.

The Saints capitalized in the 85th minute, bringing the score to 4-2 in favor of the Lions. However, that was as close the home team would get, as the Lions prevailed by a 4-2 final score.

- McBeth extended his point streak to five straight matches with his three-point effort.
