The Lindenwood men's soccer team registered a 2-1 victory over the Rockhurst Hawks on Friday evening from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The win improves Lindenwood's record to 6-4-2 and 5-3-2 from inside the GLVC.
MATCH OVERVIEW
Lindenwood took control of the match early on, scoring the first two goals of the evening.
Gaspar Alvarez put the Lions ahead by a 1-0 score in the 15th minute of the match, scoring his first goal of the season.
Leon Silva picked up the assist on Alvarez's goal for the Lions.
Just over five minutes later, in the 20th minute of the match,
Joshua Scholl delivered a beautiful cross pass from the left side of the field into the goal box. Scholl's pass found the head of
Luke McBeth who guided the ball into the right side of the goal, giving Lindenwood a commanding 2-0 lead.
The Lions protected their two-goal lead for the remainder of the first half, entering halftime leading the visitors by a 2-0 score.
In the 48th minute of the match, Lindenwood was whistled for a foul inside its own goal box, resulting in a penalty kick for Rockhurst. The Hawks converted on the chance, slicing the Lions lead in half.
The match continued with the Lions holding off the charging Hawks, which became more difficult in the 72nd minute of the match. Lindenwood's Alvarez was issued his second yellow card of the contest, resulting in a red card, which forced the Lions to play shorthanded for the remainder of the evening.Â
Despite the red card, Lindenwood flexed its defense muscle, keeping Rockhurst from evening the score, as the Lions earned the 2-1 victory.
