The Lions won their fourth straight road game 4-1 over Illinois Friday night at the Illinois Ice Arena in Champaign – Urbana, Illinois. Despite being outshot 26-24 in the contest, the Lindenwood offense was a model of efficiency, led by senior
Brendan Murphy, who had a hand in three of the four goals.
The Illini did lead early in the game on a goal with 8:25 remaining in the first, but the Lions drew even on a
Hayden Dawes blast assisted by
Zach Mitchell at 17:56. From there, Lindenwood slowly pulled away, taking a 2-1 advantage when Murphy and
Kyler Newman set up
Colton Craigo for a goal at 3:13 of the second. The next score came off the blade of Murphy himself on a feed from
Kyler Newman at 13:28.
Zach Martin put the finishing touches on the win when he split the pipes with 6:32 remaining in regulation on a play set up by
Kyle Diamond and Murphy.
Cooper Seedott stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced to earn the win in goal for the Lions.
With the victory, Lindenwood improved to 5-2-0 for the season. After five straight on the road, the Lions return to home ice for the second half of the home-and-home series with Illinois. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
