GAME OVERVIEW
The Golden Knights opened up the game with a goal just 3:41 into the game to take an early lead at home. The Lions settled down to keep Clarkson from building off its quick lead.Â
Annika Asplundh made 14 saves in the first period, while the Lions won the faceoff battle 13-11.
Â
The Lions found many more opportunities in the second period, as they continued to control the faceoff dot. At the 14:42 mark of the second frame,
Jada Burke tied the game with her first goal of the season with assists going to
Sierra Burt and
Maddison Stitt. Asplundh made another 11 saves in the period to keep it a 1-1 tie heading into the third period.
Â
Clarkson poured on the shot and fought back in the faceoff circle to flip momentum. Lindenwood didn't help its cause by committing three penalties in the third period alone. However, the Lions stood strong to hold on for overtime after facing 30 shots from the Golden Knights. Both teams had their chances in the overtime period, but the puck never found the back of the net as the first game of the weekend saw a 1-1 tie.
