Men’s Soccer Impressive in Senior Day Victory Over Southwest Baptist

MATCH OVERVIEW 
The Lindenwood men's soccer team picked up an impressive victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating  Southwest Baptist by a score of 7-1 during its Senior Day.  The win moves the Lions record to 7-4-4 on the season and 6-3-4 in the GLVC.

Lindenwood carried the pace of play from the opening whistle in the first half.  The Lions had 15 shots, seven of which were on goal, in the opening frame. The scoring got started early in the match when Leon Silva bombed a free kick from 40 yards out into the top left corner of the net. Lindenwood doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Alex Imig buried a shot from eight yards out off an assist from Noah Savage.  In the first half, Lindenwood bettered Southwest Baptist in shot attempts (15-2), shots on goal (7-0) and corner kicks (5-3). 

The impressive play continued for the Lions in the second half.  Goals were scored by Leon Silva, Joshua Scholl, Luke McBeth, Malek Akar-Jackson and Andres Gutierrez in the final 45 minutes. Entering the game the Lions had nine second half goals all season. 

With the win, the Lions have solidified a spot in the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship. The conference tournament consists of the league's top eight teams. Lindenwood currently stands at 6-3-4 in GLVC play. Eighth place is a tie between Lewis and Illinois Springfield at 5-6-2. The worst win percentage the Lions can finish with is .545 while the best Lewis/UIS can achieve is .538.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- The seven goals are the team's most since 2016.  
- Lindenwood registered 31 shots on goal.
- Luke McBeth scored his ninth goal of the season, adding to his team lead. 
- With the goal, McBeth moved his team-leading point total to 22. 
- Currently, McBeth is fourth in program history for goals in a season as well as points in a season. 

UP NEXT
The Lions will travel to Quincy, Ill for a match against the Hawks on Friday, November 1st.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
