Roller Hockey Sweeps Two Conference Games to Start Season

The Lions earned two wins in the Great Plains Collegiate Inline Hockey League (GPCIHL) October 25-26 at the All-American Sports Mall in St. Louis, Missouri.  Lindenwood toppled D1 Bethel University (Tenn.) 5-3 on Friday, then stopped the defending D4 national champion Wildcats 4-2 on Saturday.

In the first game of the weekend Friday night, the Lions came back from one-goal deficits three times before pulling away in the final period.  Bethel took the lead early before Nick Dellamorte knotted the contest at one on a feed from Nick Berger with 55 seconds remaining in the first, but the Wildcats responded just 11 seconds later to take a 2-1 advantage to the second.  Dellamorte netted his second of the game at 2:22 with help from Tyler Watson, but Bethel again responded with an unassisted tally to go ahead 3-2.

The third period belonged to Lindenwood with three unanswered goals.  Joey Rosa scored the first of those at 3:57 on a play set up by Dellamorte.  Jacob Robinson assisted Berger to give Lindenwood a 4-3 lead at 7:27, and Dellamorte completed his hat trick with an unassisted drive with 32 seconds remaining.

Robinson stopped 16 of the 19 shots he faced to earn the win in goal for the Lions as they outshot the Wildcats 24-19.  Dellamorte was named Star #1 with his three goals and one assist.  Berger received Star #2 honors with a goal and assist.

With the 4-2 victory over the D4 Bethel squad Saturday afternoon, Lindenwood improved to 2-0 overall and to 2-0 in the GPCIHL.  The Lions will travel to McKenzie, Tennessee November 16-17 for the next GPCIHL weekend.
