The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-2-0) earned its first victory of the year with a 3-2 win over Bemidji State (0-1-0) on Friday night in Bemidji, Minn. The win marks the first NCAA victory for head coach
Shelley Looney.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions faced an uphill battle after surrendering a goal in the first nine minutes of the game. Lindenwood fought through the adversity on the road, and found the game-tying goal less than five minutes later.
Hannah Alt netted her second goal of the season to make it a 1-1 game. Less than three minutes later,
Kayla Martinez scored the second goal of her career to put the Lions ahead 2-1.
Again the Lions applied pressure, as
Lokelani Antonio made it a two-goal game with her first collegiate goal at the 15:05 mark of the first period. The Lindenwood offense did not score a goal for the remainder of the game, but strong defense led to the first win of the season. The Lions blocked 32 shots in the defensive zone, while
Sophie Wolf allowed just two goals and made 30 saves.
The Lions tallied a point from seven different players, including career firsts for
Madilynn Hickey,
Gigi Pora, and
Meara Ryan. Lindenwood now has nine players on the year who have registered at least one point through three games.
