Four goals in the third period for the Lions sealed a 5-0 victory and sweep of Davenport Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Lindenwood kept the Panthers offense in check through the first period and took the lead when
Alex Kalau and
Hayden Ursulak set up
Aapo Nurminen at 12:08. The rest of the opening frame and the entire second period went scoreless, but the Lions offense clicked in the third. The same trio of players combined for a goal at 1:13 of the third when Nurminen and Ursulak assisted on a Kalau goal to make it 2-0. Special teams played a key role the rest of the game for Lindenwood with the next three scores coming on the power play.
Kyler Newman netted the first at 9:33 with help from
Austin Wilk and Ursulak. The next came just 40 seconds later when
Billy Denis and
Victor Lombardi put the puck on the stick of
Colton Craigo to sound the horn. The final scoring play resulted in the second goal of the game for Kalau at 18:08.
Brendan Murphy and
Hayden Dawes earned the assists on the play to close out scoring for the Lions, who outshot Davenport 46-19.
Cooper Seedott earned his second straight shutout victory with saves on all 19 pucks he faced.
With the win, Lindenwood improved to 10-2-0 for the season and extended its winning streak to nine straight. The Lions head on the road for a two-game set with Central Oklahoma November 15-16. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and the puck drops at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Arctic Edge in Edmond, Oklahoma.
