Three goals in the second period lifted the Lions to a 4-1 win over Ohio University Friday night at Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio.
The Bobcats capitalized on a Lindenwood penalty to take a 1-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but the Lions countered when
Zach Mitchell scored off a feed from
Kyler Newman at 12:24. Lindenwood took control in the second, but it all happened in the last five minutes of the period.
Ryan Finnegan found the back of the net twice, the first at 14:56 from
Hayden Ursulak and
Vegard Faret, and the second at 17:50 on the power play with help from
Aapo Nurminen. Mitchell and
Austin Wilk set up
Colton Craigo with 29 seconds remaining to give the Lions a 4-1 advantage after two. The Lindenwood defense and
Cooper Seedott goaltending took care of things from there.
The Lions outshot the Bobcats 38-20 and Seedott stopped 19 of the 20 pucks he faced to earn the win between the pipes.
With the win, Lindenwood improved to 11-4-0 overall and a perfect 7-0-0 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL). The Lions will work for a sweep when they face Ohio again Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio.
