Women's Hockey Suffers Overtime Loss to Robert Morris

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (2-8-2, 0-4-0 CHA) scored the first three goals of the game, but was unable to close out the Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday afternoon from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo. The Lions saw their 3-0 lead disappear, as the Colonials rallied for four unanswered goals, including the game-winning score in overtime, to secure the 4-3 win.

GAME OVERVIEW
Robert Morris came out firing, tallying eight of the first nine shots of the game. However, Lindenwood and Annika Asplundh were up for the challenge, keeping the game scoreless early on. The Lions capitalized shortly after, as Sierra Burt notched her first goal of the season. Jada Burke and Megan Wagner were credited with the assists on Burt's goal at 7:15 of the first period.

Just 63 seconds later, Maddison Stitt found the back of the net, extending the Lindenwood lead to a 2-0 margin. Lillian Marchant and Courtney Ganske had the assists on Stitt's second score of the year.

The Lions carried the two-goal lead into the second period, and following a Marchant score at the 7:50 mark of the middle frame, saw the lead swell to a 3-0 mark. Marchant's snipe from the right side of the ice was assisted by Meara Ryan and Asplundh.

Robert Morris managed to slice into the Lindenwood lead before the second period came to a close, scoring a power play goal with 4:28 left in the second period.

The Lions began the final period leading 3-1, as they looked to close out the Colonials. Robert Morris refused to go quietly, scoring its second power play goal of the afternoon just 2:10 into the third period, cutting the Lindenwood lead to 3-2.

The Colonials would score once more before the end of the period, knotting the game up at 3-3 with 5:40 to go in regulation.

Neither team managed to break the 3-3 tie before time expired in the third period, and the game headed to a five-minute overtime period.

Robert Morris completed its comeback, scoring the game-winning goal at the 2:28 mark of overtime.
