The Lindenwood wrestling team competed in the Maryvilla Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open on Saturday in St. Louis, Mo.  The annual tournament hosted by Maryville University, but took place at Westminster Christian Academy.
 
The Lions had three first-place finishers, including Tanner Hitchcock who took first place at 133 pounds in the Elite division.  Hitchcock won his first two matches by pin, before earning a thrilling 4-2 sudden victory over Marcus Povlick of McKendree in the championship match.
 
Nick Lindley tallied a first-place finish after advancing to the finals with a pin in the semifinal.  Lindley won by forfeit in the final to claim the 125-pound title in the Amateur division.
 
Jack Tangen earned a first-place finish at 149 pounds in the Amateur division.  Tangen registered two pins and won the championship match 4-1.  In his four victories, Tangen faced two conference opponents and one wrestler from Division I Purdue.
 
Lindenwood had 10 other wrestlers place in the top six of their respective weight classes.  The Lions will return to the mat on Saturday to take on Emmanuel College and Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Ark. starting at 9:00 a.m.
