The Lindenwood wrestling team finished in 10
th place at the prestigious Midwest Classic this weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Lions had three place winners at the 41st Annual Midwest Classic, which is one of the deepest and talented wrestling events in Division II featuring 15 of the top 25 teams in the nation.
Heavyweight junior
Courvoisier Morrow was the top finisher for the Lions ending the weekend as the runner-up. Morrow had a 3-1 sudden victory in the quarterfinals over Gavin Nye of CSU-Pueblo, but dropped a tough 2-0 match to #6 ranked Jacob Robb of Mercyhurst in the finals.
2019 NCAA Division II national champion
Carlos Jacquez suffered a loss to Patrick Allis of Western Colorado in the quarterfinals, but bounced back with three wins on the backside to go 6-1 on the weekend. Jacquez defeated #3 ranked Nick Daggett from UNC Pembroke by a 4-2 decision for third place.
Redshirt sophomore
Tanner Hitchcock advanced to the 133 pound quarterfinals on Saturday and ended the weekend 4-3, including a major decision in his opening match over Conrad Cole of Fort Hays. Hitchcock earned a win by pinning Zach Larue of Bellarmine to reach the consolation semifinals and finished the weekend in sixth place.
Other highlights from the weekend:
- 141 lbs - Blaine Martinez won his opening match by pinning Wyatt Powell of Ohio Valley
- 165 lbs – Austin Stofer won his first two matches of the tournament, including a 24-9 technical fall over Dylan Knotts of Urbana
- 174 lbs – Freshman Elijah Mahan went 2-2 on the weekend, including win by fall over Jack Goin of Central Missouri in his first match of the tournament.
- 197 lbs – Keaton Fogler went 3-2 on the weekend including a pin over Tyler Boone of Fort Hays State
The Lions return to the mat for a home dual versus Central Missouri on Saturday, January 4 at 7pm in Hyland Arena.
