The No. 8 Lindenwood wrestling team competed in the Drury Open on Saturday in Springfield, Mo.
Anthony Michaels earned the highest finish for the Lions, taking second in the 157-pound weight class.
Michaels opened the day with an 18-0 tech fall in his first bout. In the quarterfinal round, Michaels needed just 33 seconds to pin his opponent from Drury. Michaels won by a 10-1 major decision in the semifinal match, before losing in the championship round to take second place.
Sam Pennington took third place at 174 pounds, posting three wins by pin. Pennington won the third place match by a pin at the 4:27 mark, to end his day with four-straight victories.
Michael Kramer took third place in his 285-pound weight class. Kramer won his final two matches by pin at 1:15 and 1:05, respectively to take third place.
The Lions had three more wrestlers earn a place of sixth or better, including
Isaac Jacquez who took fifth at 133 pounds.
Nick Lindley and
Devon Byrd each took home sixth place in their respective weight divisions.
The Lions will head to Indianapolis, Ind. next weekend to compete in the prestigious Midwest Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
