Roller hockey earned two shutouts in Great Plains Collegiate Hockey League (GPCIHL) play on Saturday, defeating St. Louis Community College – Meramec 13-0 and Kansas State 11-0 at Matteson Square Gardens Tri-Plex in St. Peters, Missouri.
The Lions controlled the contest against the Archers from the beginning, led by
Sam Koenig who scored the first two goals for Lindenwood on the way to a five goal game.
Adam Swims added an unassisted tally just before the end of the first period and the Lions had a 3-0 lead. Lindenwood took a penalty early in the second, but
Joey Rosa turned the tables with a short-handed shot. Koenig completed his hat trick and then
Nick DellaMorte scored four straight to round out the period with a 9-0 Lions advantage. In the final period, Koenig added two, and single goals came from Rosa and
Chris Visico.
Koenig was named Star #1 of the game with five goals and an assist, DellaMorte earned Star #2 honors with four goals and an assist, and Visico was named Star #3 with a goal and four assists. Lindenwood outshot the Archers 45-7 and
Jacob Robinson stopped the seven pucks he faced to earn the victory.
Against the Wildcats, the Lions scored in the first 24 seconds off the stick of
Tyler Watson and never looked back. DellaMorte,
Cody Page, and Koenig found the back of the net later in the period to give Lindenwood a 4-0 lead. In the second, Rosa added to the ledger, and then the Lions scored back-to-back on short-handed plays from Swims and DellaMorte. Visico split the pipes midway through the period for an 8-0 Lindenwood advantage. In the final frame, Koenig and Page scored, and DellaMorte completed a hat trick at 8:55 for the final margin.
DellaMorte earned Star #1 honors with three goals and an assist, Page was named Star #2 with two goals and a pair of assists, and Koenig earned Star #3 honors with two goals and an assist.
Paul Town earned the win in goal for the Lions with 13 saves as Lindenwood outshot Kansas State 52-13 in the contest.
With the two victories, the Lions improved to 15-0 on the season. They'll compete at the GPCIHL Regional Championship February 22-24 at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Missouri.
