Men's Ice Hockey-ACHA

Lions Continue to Claim Top Spot in Ranking

The Lions claimed the top spot in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division I Ranking for the 12th straight time this week, after getting the last weekend off from competition.

The top five teams remained the same, but changed order slightly.  Michigan – Dearborn improved to 18-1-1 after sweeping Rochester College in a home-and-home series to remain second, followed by Adrian, once again in third place with a mark of 26-2-0.  The Bulldogs swept No. 6 Davenport to clinch the conference title in the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League.  Ohio University swept Iowa State at home to improve to 18-3-6.  The end result was the two teams swapped positions with the Bobcats moving to fourth while the Cyclones slipped to fifth.

Lindenwood currently stands at 23-1-0 on the season and has already clinched the regular season title in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League with a 13-0-0 mark.  The Lions travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to face the No. 6 Panthers in a two-game set February 22-23.  Davenport moved up a spot in the ranking despite the sweep by Adrian.  The Panthers have a potent offense, led by Alex Hulford, who enters the series with 55 points on 24 goals and 31 assists.  He's followed closely by Austin Thompson with 51 points on 26 goals and 25 assists.  Davenport has taken care of goaltending duties somewhat by committee, with Jason Rhynold earning most starts with a 14-4 record, 2.33 goals against average, and .911 save percentage.

Lindenwood counters with a very balanced offensive attack, with eight players having 20 points or more, led by Jake Townsend with 40, on 13 goals and 27 assists.  Ryan Finnegan is close behind with 37 points on nine goals and 28 assists.  Zach Mitchell is the goal leader with 19 on the season, with 13 assists for 32 points, while Tommy Heinzman has 31 points on 26 assists and five goals.  Cooper Seedott continues to shine between the pipes with a perfect 21-0 record, 1.37 goals against average, and .941 save percentage.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. Friday night and again at 4 p.m. Saturday night at the Patterson Ice Arena.
