The Lindenwood men's and women's tennis teams split their match against William Jewell on Wednesday in St. Charles, Mo. The men's team (1-7) defeated William Jewell (2-12) by a 6-1 final, while the women's squad (0-5) lost 6-1 to the Cardinals (6-7).
Theo Butaeye and
Juan Albin each had close matches with their respective opponents. Butaeye won 7-5 and 6-4, while Albin won 6-3 and 7-5.
Guillaume Teste (6-2, 6-1),
Logan Orr (6-1, 6-4), and
Carlos Clerins (6-1, 6-3) each had an easier time with their opponents.
Hector Horcajada and Orr teamed up to shut out their opponent in doubles action by a 6-0 final.
Tudor Ghenea and Albin earned the team point in doubles competition as they won their match 6-2.
The women's team struggled, but two different matches went three sets, which could have had an impact on the overall score.
Kylie McCarthy had the only victory in singles action as she won by scores of 7-5 and 6-2.
Natalia Cordero and
Dana Minakova registered a convincing win over their doubles competition with a 6-1 victory.
The women's team will be back in action on Thursday to take on Missouri-St. Louis at 3 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo. The men's squad will return to the court on Saturday to host Missouri Valley at 2 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
