The No. 5 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team defeated the Tiffin Dragons on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 10-9 from Tiffin, Ohio.
Abby Hagberg led all scorers with five points, including four goals.
GAME OVERVIEW
Sami Smit opened the afternoon's scoring with just over 26 minutes showing on the clock, giving the Lions the early 1-0 advantage.
The Dragons battled back, scoring back-to-back goals to carry a 2-1 lead past the halfway point of the first half.
Carly Fedorowski and
Gracie Pine each scored within a 68-second span to help Lindenwood reestablish a lead at 3-2 with 12:51 to play in the opening period.
Tiffin again answered by scoring two straight goals as it took a 4-3 lead over Lindenwood.
The Lions ended the half by scoring four of the final five goals, including two scores from Hagberg, to bring a 7-5 lead into halftime.
Hagberg extended the Lindenwood lead to 8-5, scoring her third goal of the game with 20:57 remaining in regulation.
The Dragons refused to go away quietly, as they scored two straight goals to cut their deficit to 8-7 with just under 17 minutes to play.
Hailey Gallant assisted Hagberg on her fourth goal of the day to put an end to halt Tiffin's building momentum with 13:41 showing on the clock.
Just 87 seconds later, Gallant moved Lindenwood's lead to 10-7 with her first score of the day.
The Dragons battled back yet again, scoring two straight goals, cutting the Lions lead to 10-9 with 2:30 remaining.
Tiffin had possession in the final seconds of the game as it searched for the game-tying score. However, Lindenwood goalkeeper
Aly Smith was up for the challenge, as she made her 10th and final save of the game as time expired to preserve the 10-9 lead.
