Men's Ice Hockey-ACHA

Unexpected Ending

In all 32 previous games this season, the Lions had scored at least two goals, even in the one loss they had to Central Oklahoma in late January, so being shutout was the last thing expected, but that's exactly what No. 6 seed Minot State did Monday night in Frisco, Texas, handing Lindenwood a 1-0 loss in the semifinals of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division I National Championship.

The Beavers took the lead on an even-strength play midway through the first, but that still left plenty of time for a Lions comeback.  Lindenwood even had three power play chances throughout the game, one in each period, the last coming with under four minutes to play, but still the Lions could not get a puck to the back of the net.  With just under a minute to play, Lindenwood Head Coach Rick Zombo pulled goalie Cooper Seedott to go six-on-five, but Minot State resisted the onslaught to the final horn.

The Lions outshot the Beavers 28 to 24, and Seedott stopped all but one of the 24 shots he faced in a hard luck defeat.  Lindenwood went scoreless on three power play chances while holding Minot State scoreless on five man-advantage opportunities.

For the second year in a row, the Lions bow out in the national championship semifinals, but they finish the season with an overall record of 31-2-0, they held the top spot in the ACHA rankings for 14 consecutive weeks, and they won the regular season and playoff titles in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL), posting a conference mark of 15-0-0.

Minot State will face CSCHL foe and No. 5 seed Iowa State for the ACHA Murdoch Cup Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
