Baseball Battles to 7-4 Win over Pittsburg State

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood baseball team (8-11, 3-4 MIAA) opened its three-game series against Pittsburg State (8-9, 3-4 MIAA) with a 7-4 win at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions had a scare in the first inning as starting pitcher Tyler Cassmeyer had to exit the game after his second batter.  Lindenwood had to scramble to get a new pitcher in the game, as Brody Roach was leaned on to battle on short notice.  To make things more interesting, Roach had to sit through a weather delay in the bottom of the second.  Roach handled the situation well by going 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and allowed just two runs.

Dominic Revetta drove in Neil Fischer in the bottom of the second to put the Lions on top 1-0.  However, the Gorillas responded with a run in the top of the third to tie the game.  The Lions had a big third inning that was started with a single up the middle by Mitchell Krebs that scored Ryan Sosnowski.  DJ Miller hit a single up the middle, and was followed by a Neil Fischer double to brought in Krebs.  The third run of the inning came on a hit by pitch with bases loaded.

Pittsburg State got one run back in the top of the fourth to make it a 4-2 ballgame.  Lindenwood put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth that saw three-straight walks to load the bases.  Sosnowski came through in the clutch with a two-RBI single to left field just two pitches later.  The seventh run of the game for the Lions came on another bases-loaded walk, making it 7-2 in favor of the Lions.

Eric Hipp came in to pitch the final five innings for the Lions as he allowed two unearned runs on four hits.  Pittsburg State platted two more runs in the top of the seventh, but the lead was too great as the Lions held on for the 7-4 win in game one.
