The No. 12 Lindenwood men's lacrosse team earned a 10-9 victory over the No. 19 Tampa Spartans on Saturday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The victory is Lindenwood's second win over a ranked opponent this season, and improves the team's record to 6-1.
GAME OVERVIEW
Leonard Jones gave Lindenwood an early one-goal lead, scoring an unassisted goal at the 8:37 mark of the first quarter.
The visiting Spartans scored the final two goals of the quarter and took a 2-1 edge with them into the second frame.
Tampa scored four of the first five goals during the second quarter, establishing a 6-2 lead over Lindenwood with just over eight minutes remaining before halftime.
Lindenwood's
Grant Glazier stopped Tampa's momentum with an unassisted score at the 7:27 mark of the second quarter, bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of the Spartans.
Glazier's goal was the first of six straight scores by the Lions, a run that carried into the third quarter, and helped Lindenwood take an 8-6 lead. The Lions spread the wealth during its 6-0 run, having six different players score in that time.
Tampa responded immediately with three consecutive goals to finish the third quarter as they took a 9-8 lead into the final quarter.
After 3:23 of play in the fourth quarter,
Carter Collins scored his second goal of the afternoon, bringing the Lions back even with the Spartans at 9-9.
With 5:23 remaining in the game,
Garrett Brunsvold connected on the game-winning score, giving Lindenwood a 10-9 lead. The Lions withstood the increased pressure from the Spartans and picked up the come from behind win.
