Baseball Drops Game One of Weekend Series to Northwest Missouri

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood baseball team (23-21, 15-13 MIAA) lost 14-10 to Northwest Missouri State (20-23, 15-13 MIAA) on Friday in Maryville, Mo.
 
DJ Miller opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run to left center, giving the Lions an early 2-0 lead.  The Bearcats responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second, and another in the third to take a 4-2 lead after three innings.  Neil Fischer tied the game back up in the top of the fifth with a two-RBI single to left field.  Lindenwood took a 5-4 lead after Bryce Beckmann closed out the inning with an RBI double to right field.
 
The Lindenwood lead was short lived as Northwest Missouri put up five runs in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead.  Ryan Sosnowski got one run back in the top of the seventh with an RBI single, but the Bearcats tacked on more runs in the bottom half.  Northwest Missouri held a six-run lead heading into the top of the eight, and the Lions gave it one last effort in the top of the eighth.  Fischer hit a grand slam with two outs, cutting the deficit to two runs.  The Lions surrendered two more runs in the bottom of the ninth and could not complete the comeback.
