Baseball Slugs its Way to 18-5 Win Over Northwest Missouri

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood baseball team (24-21, 16-13 MIAA) tied its weekend series against Northwest Missouri State (20-24, 15-14 MIAA) with an 18-5 win on Saturday in Maryville, Mo.
 
The Bearcats opened scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Lions tied the game in the top of the third.  Ryan Venne hit a double in the top of the third and later scored on an-RBI double by Kolby Schulte to make it a 1-1 game.  Northwest Missouri put up three more runs in the bottom of the third to regain a lead 4-1.  Venne tied the game in the top of the fourth with a three-run blast to right field.
 
The Lions were hot in the top of the fifth, pouring on nine runs to take their first lead of the game.  Fischer broke the tie with a three-run shot of his own to left field, making it 7-4 in favor of the Lions.  Bryce Beckmann and Ryan Sosnowski scored later in the inning to extend the lead to five runs.  DJ Miller broke the game wide open with a three-run homer to right center, resulting in a 12-4 lead.  Beckmann closed out the scoring in the fifth inning with an-RBI double to left center, giving Lindenwood a nine-run inning and a 13-4 lead.
 
Lindenwood added three more runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh en route to an 18-5 win in the second game of the series.  Brody Roach went all seven innings for the Lions and earned his fourth win of the year.
