Field Hockey Coasts to Sixth Consecutive Home-Opening Win

The Lindenwood field hockey team posted a 3-1 victory over Frostburg State during its first home game of the season on Friday evening from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. With the win, Lindenwood improves its record to 2-1 on the season. The Lions have now won six consecutive home openers dating back to the 2014 season.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood broke a scoreless tie in the seventh minute of the game, as Taylor Sullivan scored her first career goal as a Lion at the 6:36 mark of the first quarter. Lauren Roberts assisted Sullivan on the goal, her first helper of the season.

With the first quarter coming to a close, the Lions found the back of the cage once more, extending their lead to a two-goal margin. Annick Giebels registered her first goal of the season with just 37 seconds remaining in the quarter. Pauline Terwindt had the assist, her first of the season, on Giebels' score.

Lindenwood saw its lead swell to a 3-0 edge after just 1:41 of play in the second frame. Bridget Hoogendijk created a turnover in the offensive zone, and ripped a shot past the Frostburg State goalkeeper, giving the Lions the 3-0 lead. For Hoogendijk, the goal was her second in as many games and the 41st of her career.

Frostburg State would not go quietly into the night, scoring exactly three minutes later, bringing the Lindenwood lead to 3-1.

Neither team would score again before halftime, as the Lions carried their two-goal lead into the intermission.

The third quarter saw much of the same defensive action, as the score held at 3-1 for the entirety of the period.

Lindenwood managed to hold off Frostburg State throughout the final quarter, as it protected the 3-1 lead to earn the victory.

Mackenzie Litterst earned her second win of the season in goal for Lindenwood.
