The Lindenwood football team (1-3) lost 35-24 to Davenport (3-0) on Saturday in Caledonia, Mich. The Lions surrendered 25 points in the fourth quarter, and turned the ball over four times in the game.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions got off to a strong start for the second-straight week, as
Lloyd Lockett sparked the momentum with an interception on the second Davenport drive.
Cade Brister and
Payton Rose connected three times on the six-play drive, ending in a 17-yard touchdown connection. The Lions forced the Panthers to punt on the ensuing possession, and
Dalton Grohler punched in the one-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0.
The Lindenwood defense again stood strong after facing a first-and-goal at its own eight-yard line. The Lions held the Panthers to a field goal, but Davenport was able to find the success it needed. The Panthers drove down the field two possessions later, this time finding the end zone on a 20-yard touchdown pass. Lindenwood still held a 14-10 lead heading into the break.
The Lions came out of halftime and quickly went down the field for a 75-yard touchdown drive that ended in a two-yard touchdown run for Brister. Lindenwood carried a 21-10 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Panthers hit a 20-yard field goal to make it a one-possession game with 13:47 to go in the game. Davenport forced a three-and-out on the next Lindenwood drive, and took the ball 58 yards on just two plays while connecting on the two-point conversion to tie the game at 21-21.
Lindenwood chewed up nearly four minutes on the next drive, resulting in a 32-yard field goal by
Brett Garner to regain a 24-21 lead with just under eight minutes to go in the game. The Panther took their first lead of the game at the 3:36 mark to go up 28-24. The Lions were forced into a fourth-and-long situation, resulting in an interception returned for a touchdown to ice the game.
