Former Lindenwood football standout
Jonathan Harris made his NFL debut with the Chicago Bears on Sunday, registering one tackle in the 16-6 win for the Bears at Soldier Field.
Â
Harris was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad on Saturday. The 6-5, 290-pound rookie made one stop in his first action of 2019. Harris is the third Lindenwood Lion to appear in an NFL regular season game since Pierre Desir in 2014. Desir is currently with the Indianapolis Colts in his sixth NFL season, after signing a three-year deal this past offseason.
Â
Harris signed a training camp invite with the Bears following the 2019 NFL Draft, making him the 12th Lindenwood player to ink an NFL contract. The Waubonsie Valley product did not make the 53-man roster at the start of the season, but stayed within an hour of his hometown as a part of the Bears practice squad.
Â
Harris capped off a stellar career with Lindenwood by making a career-high 11.5 tackles for loss in 2018, and tied his career high of six sacks. The defensive tackle tallied the most solo tackles (27), assisted tackles (32), and total tackles (59) in his career through his 11 games as a senior.
Â
The Aurora, Ill. native ranked fifth in the MIAA for sacks, and sixth in the conference for tackles for loss in 2018. Harris accumulated 38.5 tackles for loss for 166 yards and 22.0 sacks for 127 yards in his four-year career. Harris garnered all-MIAA accolades in each of his four seasons, and was named to the first-team all-MIAA in his last two years.
