The Lindenwood men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat against Christian Brothers on Friday evening from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. After scoring the game-tying goal in the 88th minute, Christian Brothers picked up the game-winning goal with just 34 seconds remaining in regulation.
MATCH OVERVIEW
Following a scoreless first half that saw just a total of five shots, only two of which were on goal, the action picked up significantly in the second half.
Christian Brothers moved ahead by a 1-0 score in the 80th minute, as Ivan Segui scored what seemed to be the only goal needed to earn the victory for the Buccaneers.
However, with just over two minutes remaining in regulation, Lindenwood broke through to score the game-tying goal.
Luke McBeth put home a loose ball right on the goal line off of a free kick, bringing the Lions even with the Buccaneers at 1-1.
Christian Brothers refused to allow the match to head to overtime, and with just 34 seconds remaining, Segui netted his second goal of the evening. Segui's second goal of the match would prove to be the game-winning score, as the Buccaneers closed out the Lions for the 2-1 win.
