The Lions earned a two-game sweep of Missouri State with a 4-0 win Saturday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
After a scoreless first, Lindenwood posted two goals in each of the next two periods. Â
Tommy Heinzman split the pipes first with help from
Aapo Nurminen at 13:43. It appeared that the Lions would only lead 1-0 after the first 40 minutes, but
Brendan Murphy changed that idea when he sounded the horn with just 14 seconds remaining, assisted by
Alex Kalau and
Ryan Finnegan. Lindenwood extended its lead early in the third when
Hayden Ursulak and
Andy Willis set up Vegard Feret at 4:42. The final score for the Lions came off the blade of
Colton Craigo on a play set up by
Kyler Newman and
Caleb Ernst with 3:57 remaining in the game.
Lindenwood outshot the Bears 44-23 and
Cooper Seedott was perfect with 23 saves to earn the shutout victory in goal.
The Lions improved to 13-5-0 overall. They will put their 7-1-0 record in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) on the line when they travel north to face Robert Morris (Ill.) January 17-18. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday night at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois.
