The Lindenwood women's hockey team (3-14-3, 1-8-0 CHA) earned a 3-0 victory over RIT (9-12-2, 2-7-0 CHA) on Friday night at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo. Sophomore goaltender
Annika Asplundh posted her first-career shutout, after stopping 36 shots.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions gave RIT multiple opportunities in the opening frame, but a breakout from the defensive zone led to a goal by
Jada Burke to make it a 1-0 lead. Asplundh kept it a one-goal game after making 12 saves. Lindenwood picked up the pace in the second period, outshooting the Tigers 18-6.
Kayla Martinez gave the Lions a two-goal lead in the second with a goal near the halfway point of the period. With less than 20 seconds remaining in the period,
Megan Wagner timed up a drop pass for
Sierra Burt leading to the third goal of the game.
The physicality picked up in the third period, but Asplundh stayed calm between the pipes. Asplundh made 18 saves in the final period to earn her first collegiate shutout. Lindenwood helped out Asplundh in the defensive end, combining for 24 blocked shots, six of which came from
Courtney Ganske.
