Men's ice hockey gave the scoreboard a solid workout in an 8-1 victory over Ohio University Friday night in a Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) battle at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Lions scored three goals in the first period and five in the second to secure the contest in convincing fashion.
Alex Kalau accounted for the first two goals for Lindenwood, the first at even strength from
Caleb Ernst and
Jordan Klimovsky at 4:01. He then converted on the power play at 11:49, assisted by
Brendan Murphy and
Ryan Finnegan. Finnegan then scored with 5:08 remaining on a feed from
Tommy Heinzman.
Shots continued to sound the horn in the second. Finnegan notched his second goal of the game on the power play at 2:17 from Heinzman and
Aapo Nurminen. Heinzman then split the pipes on a play set up by Finnegan and Nurminen at 8:19. Kalau netted his second at 9:08 from
Hayden Ursulak and
Billy Denis, then Colton Cragio was awarded a penalty shot, and made it at 11:14. The final score for the Lions came from
Billy Denis as his first collegiate goal at 14:11, assisted by
Vegard Faret and Kalau. The Bobcats managed to break the shutout with a third period goal, but the outcome was clearly decided.
Lindenwood outshot Ohio 33-30, and
Cooper Seedott stopped 29 of 30 pucks he faced to earn the victory in goal.
With the win, the Lions improved to 16-5-0 overall and 10-1-0 in the CSCHL. They'll try for a sweep in the second game of the series against the Bobcats at 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center.
