After putting eight on the board Friday night, the Lions only managed a couple of goals Saturday afternoon as they fell to Ohio University 3-2 in the finale of a Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) series at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
It looked like the momentum of a big win the previous night had carried over when
Aapo Nurminen capitalized on a power play chance with help from
Brendan Murphy and
Tommy Heinzman at 6:34 in the first. The Lions had an opportunity to increase their lead with another man-advantage situation later in the period, but the Bobcats turned the tables with a steal and breakaway for a short-handed goal at 13:12 to tie the game at one.
Defense took over for the rest of the first and all of the second with neither team finding the back of the net, but that changed quickly in the third when
Braden Shea sounded the horn on a play set up by
Victor Lombardi and
Colton Craigo just 30-seconds into the period. Ohio answered just over six minutes later with a power play goal, and the Bobcats scored the game-winner with 2:12 left in regulation.
Lindenwood outshot Ohio 49-33 and
Cooper Seedott stopped 30 of 33 shots to take the loss in goal. It was only the second defeat for the Lions at home all season.
Lindenwood fell to 16-6-0 overall and to 10-2-0 in the CSCHL. The Lions host Oklahoma in a non-conference match-up January 31 and February 1. The opening faceoff is set for 7:15 p.m. Friday night and at 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center.
