The Lindenwood women's basketball team (2-2, 2-2 GLVC) secured its first home victory of the campaign against Missouri S&T (0-4, 0-4 GLVC), 87-65, on Thursday.
Julia Ruzevich (25) and
Devin Fuhring (22) both finished with over 20 points against the Miners. J. Ruzevich was 10-18 from the field, including 5-8 from deep, while also amassing five rebounds and five assists. Fuhring shot 9-16 from the field, while hitting on 3-4 three-pointers, and also tallying eight rebounds and four dimes.
Hennessey Handy set a new career-high in rebounds with 11, while
Grace Neff reached a new career-best in points with eight. Neff also tied a previous career-high in assists, with eight.
12 different Lions scored in the game, as the team shot 44.7 percent from the field in the game and 35.3 from beyond the arc. The team's 12 made three-pointers was a season-high as a unit, besting their previous-high of 10 at Maryville on Dec. 3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trailing, 2-0, early in the game, the Lions would go on to outscore the Miners, 20-7, over the course of the first quarter.
- The Lions shot 40.0 percent from deep in the first period. J. Ruzevich scored a first quarter-high eight points for Lindenwood. Fuhring added seven points for the team.
- Neff scored three points while dishing out three assists in the first. Nicole Hernandez brought in a career-best four rebounds.
- Ellen McCorkle led all Lindenwood scorers in the second period with six points. She also added three offensive rebounds to her total.
- After a sluggish start to the third period, the Lions outscored the Miners, 30-16, in the quarter. Lindenwood shot 54.5 percent from the field, and 44.4 percent from deep, as J. Ruzevich scored a team-best 13 points.
- Jamie Bain and Kate Ruzevich each recorded four points and combined for five rebounds.
- Kendra Lee (3), Emily Benzschawel (2), Blair Borrowman (2), and McKenna Montgomery (3) accumulated a combined 10 of the Lions' 20 points in the final quarter.
- The Lions outscored the Miners, 44-36, in the paint on Thursday. Lindenwood received 22 points from the bench, while holding Missouri S&T to four points from its reserves.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
- J. Ruzevich led the team with 25 points, as she has now scored 23 or more points in three of the team's four games this season. Fuhring's 22 points were second on the squad, and were a season-high for the junior guard.
- Handy finished with a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the team. Fuhring (8), McCorkle (7), Ruzevich (6), Hernandez (6), and J. Ruzevich (5) all finished with five or more rebounds.
- Neff's career-high tying eight assists were a team-best. J. Ruzevich was second with five assists.
- McCorkle blocked a career-high four shots in the game. She has recorded a blocked shot in each game this season.
