Women's Basketball Rallies for Thrilling Comeback

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (3-2, 3-2 GLVC) secured an 80-75 comeback victory over previously-undefeated Truman State (3-1, 3-1 GLVC) on Saturday.

Devin Fuhring led the Lions with 33 points as the team came back from a 13-point deficit. Lindenwood outscored Truman State by ten points in the final period of the game to secure the program's third-straight victory this season, and fourth-straight win over the Bulldogs.

Nicole Hernandez tallied a career-best eight points in the victory, including two clutch fourth quarter three point makes. The game marks the ninth time under Falco that the Lions have overcome a halftime deficit.

In the game, Lindenwood shot 43.3 percent from the field and 59.1 percent from deep. The Lions made it to the charity stripe 17 times as a unit, making 15 of the attempts. Executing on Truman State turnovers, Lindenwood scored 16 points off Bulldogs mistakes. In a game that featured 10 lead changes, the Lions received 17 points off the bench to Truman State's six.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on an Ellen McCorkle three-pointer and layup. Truman State would take the lead, however, gaining a lead as large as six in the first period before allowing the Lions to tie it up at 20-20 on a Julia Ruzevich layup.
  • Lindenwood outshot Truman State, 4-2, on three-pointers in the first quarter.
  • The Bulldogs held the lead for a majority of the second period, but the Lions were able to gain a one-point advantage on a Jamie Bain three-pointer.
  • After ending the first half on a 3-0 run, Truman State pushed its lead to as large as 13 points in the third quarter before allowing Lindenwood to work its way back.
  • The Lions were buoyed by Fuhring's nine third quarter points, as the team trailed by just five points heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Lindenwood outscored Truman State, 26-16, in the fourth period. After two Fuhring free throws with 2:36 left in the game, the Lions went up 74-72 and never looked back.
  • In a career-high eight point effort by Hernandez, six of those eight points came in the fourth quarter, on two made three-pointers.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
  • Fuhring led the team with a career-best 33 points, tied for the fourth-most in a single-game in program history.
  • Ellen McCorkle added 12 points, and J. Ruzevich had 11 points in the victory.
  • J. Ruzevich's nine rebounds were the highest total for any Lion.
  • Hennessey Handy dished out five assists, which led Lindenwood.
  • Fuhring added three steals, which was a season-high for the junior guard.
  • McCorkle and Fuhring both recorded a block in the game.
