Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Overcomes Slow Start, Wins 88-74 at Quincy

The Lindenwood men's basketball team (3-0, 3-0 GLVC) overcame a 12-point deficit in the first have to defeat Quincy (0-4, 0-4 GLVC) by a final of 88-74 on Saturday in Quincy, Ill.  TJ Crockett led all scorers with 25 points in just 26 minutes played.

GAME OVERVIEW
Quincy took a 21-9 lead at the 14:32 mark of the first half, and maintained a comfortable lead before the Lions clawed back with less than six minutes remaining.  Lindenwood scored 14 points in the final five minutes of the half to make it a 42-37 lead for the Hawks at the half.  Kevin Caldwell Jr. led the Lions in scoring through the first 20 minutes of play, as he compiled 13 points.  The Lions struggled behind the arc in the opening half, as Caldwell made the only three-pointer while the team registered 12 attempts.

The Hawks built their lead back up to 11 points at the 16:03 mark, but the Lions again battled back.  Less than four minutes later, Brandon Trimble tied the game at 62-62 with a fast-break layup.  Lindenwood held a lead near the halfway point of the second half and played strong to maintain the advantage.  With 2:17 remaining in the game, Vijay Blackmon put the Lions up by 10 points.  Crockett gave Lindenwood an 84-71 lead after knocking down his fourth three-pointer of the game.  Crockett was 7-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range in the second half alone.

Lindenwood outrebounded Quincy by a 39-32 margin, and was locked in at the free-throw line by going 20-for-23 at the charity stripe.  Cameron Scales brought down a team-high 10 rebounds, and four Lions tallied double-digit points in the road victory.  The Lions are now 3-0 in conference play, the best start for the program since joining the NCAA.

QUOTABLE
"i just couldn't be happier with the effort we are giving over 40 minutes," said head coach Kyle Gerdeman.  "It's not always perfect, but we are really trying to play hard.  We've had guys in hurt, and guys in and out of the lineup, so it's screwed up our rhythm offensively, but we are getting healthier now.  Kevin Caldwell Jr. was great in the first half coming back from injury, and it was good to have Brandon Trimble back as well.  Then the scoring from TJ and Vijay was special in the second half.  But, for the first three games, our depth has been a big key for us."
