Women's Basketball Picks Up First Win at Quincy

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (1-2, 1-2 GLVC) picked up its first win of the season at Quincy (0-4, 0-4 GLVC), 67-41, on Saturday.

Julia Ruzevich secured her third-consecutive double-double to begin the season, as she tallied 17 points on 6-15 shooting (2-4 from deep) and 12 rebounds. Ellen McCorkle tied a career-high with her 16 point-effort, and came up just short of her first-career double-double, as she finished with nine rebounds.

As a unit, the Lions shot 40.3 percent from the field, to Quincy's 24.6 percent. Lindenwood splashed seven of its 19 three point attempts, for 36.8 percent shooting. The Lions' biggest lead of the game was 35 points, which came in the fourth quarter.

The Hawks struggled to limit Lindenwood's paint scoring, as the Lions amassed 34 points inside, to Quincy's 12. Lindenwood also received 13 second chance points, while limiting Quincy to just five second chance points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trailing, 2-0, early to start the game, the Lions would take the lead on a Hennessey Handy jumper, 4-2, and never look back. Lindenwood held the lead for all but 16 seconds in the matchup.
  • The Lions outscored Quincy in the first period, 15-8, as the team shot 27.8 percent from the field. McCorkle was the team's scoring leader through the first 10 minutes, with seven points.
  • Lindenwood outscored Quincy in each period, and the second quarter was no different. The Lions scored 17 points to the Hawk's 14. Six different Lions scored in the second frame of the game, as the team never trailed.
  • The Lions shot 43.8 percent from the field, including 50.0 percent from deep, in the second period.
  • Lindenwood would not relinquish the lead, as the team outscored Quincy, 35-19, in the second half.
  • Autumn Brown, Kenzie Guese, and Nicole Hernandez all recorded their first points of the season in the second half. For Brown and Hernandez, it was the first buckets of their collegiate careers.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
  • J. Ruzevich, McCorkle, and Devin Fuhring all scored in double-digits for the Lions. J. Ruzevich led the team with 17, while McCorkle and Fuhring scored 16 and 11, respectively.
  • For the third-straight game, J. Ruzevich was tops on the team in rebounding, with 12. Three of the boards came on the offensive end.
  • Four different Lions recorded two assists in the game. Jamie Bain, Grace Neff, Handy, and J. Ruzevich all notched two dimes.
  • J. Ruzevich's two blocked shots was best on the team. McCorkle also added one blocked shot, as she has had at least one in each of the team's first three games.
  • J. Ruzevich also led the team in steals, with three. The three steals were a season-high for the senior guard.
