Lindenwood defeated Iowa State 4-1 for a sixth straight win Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Hayden Dawes gave the Lions a lead just 33 seconds into the game on a play set up by
Nick Greene and
Austin Wilk. The score remained 1-0 until a flurry of scoring early in the second. Dawes and
Tommy Heinzman fed
Aapo Nurminen 30 seconds into the period, but the Cyclones answered just 10 seconds later for a 2-1 Lindenwood advantage. As the third period began, the Lions struck early again, this time from
Hayden Ursulak at the 58 second mark, assisted by
Ryan Finnegan and Wilk. Ursulak also sounded the horn on the final goal for Lindenwood with help from Finnegan and
Vegard Faret at 5:23.
The Lions outshot Iowa State 47-23 and
Cooper Seedott stopped 22 of 23 to earn the victory in goal.
Lindenwood improved to 22-7-0 overall and to 13-2-0 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL). The Lions and Cyclones wrap up the series Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
