Lindenwood goaltender Cooper Seedott posted another solid performance and Tommy Heinzman assisted on both Lions goals in a 2-1 victory over the University of Illinois Saturday night at the Illinois Ice Arena in Champaign – Urbana, Illinois.

Defense for both squads was on display through the first two periods.  Zach Mitchell finally broke the shutout off a feed from Heinzman at 17:36 of the second.  Heinzman set up Brendan Murphy at 12:44 in the third to give Lindenwood a 2-1 lead.  The Illini managed a last second goal with seven seconds left in regulation for the final margin.

The Lions outshot Illinois 39-30 and Seedott stopped 29 of 30 pucks for the victory in goal.  Special teams defense took charge, with Lindenwood holding the Illini scoreless on six power play chances, but Illinois kept the Lions from sounding the horn on three, man advantage opportunities.

With the win, Lindenwood improved to 18-7-0 overall and to 11-2-0 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League.  The Lions host the home-and-home series finale Sunday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
