Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Nearly Sweeps Mercyhurst

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-19-3, 3-11-0 CHA) could not pull off the weekend sweep of Mercyhurst (15-9-4, 9-3-2 CHA) in a tight 1-0 loss on Saturday in Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
The game got off to a hot start with both teams applying pressure in the offensive end, but the Lakers prevailed at the 5:22 mark of the first period to take a 1-0 lead.  The Lions were able to get seven shots on goal, but trailed by one at the first intermission.  Annika Asplundh faced a large amount of shots in the second period, but made all 12 saves to keep the Lions in the hunt heading into the third period.

After killing off a penalty that carried over from the second period to the third, the Lions could not find their groove in the offensive zone.  Megan Wagner broke loose on a couple of chances, but Mercyhurst did not all Lindenwood to sustain pressure.  The Lakers held off a strong push by the Lions in the final minute to split the weekend series.
