Women's Hockey Tallies 57 Shots on Goal in 2-0 Shutout Win Against RIT

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-6-0, 1-6-0 CHA) picked up their first win of the season by a score of 2-0 over RIT (1-5-0, 1-5-0 CHA) on Sunday afternoon from Rochester N.Y. The Lions totaled 57 shots on goal in the game, breaking the previous record of 53 set in 2012.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood directed 10 shots toward the Tigers net, four of which were on goal in the first seven minutes of the opening frame. That pressure led to two early power play opportunities for the Lions, but they were unable to take advantage. Lindenwood tallied 27 shots, 13 of which were on goal in the first period, while holding RIT to just four shots on goal. Despite the offensive pressure, the game remained scoreless after one period of play.

Lindenwood came out of the locker room controlling most of the play in the second frame totaling 37 shots, 23 of which were on target.  Megan Wagner and Sierra Burt led the way with five shots on goal in the second 20 minutes of play for the Lions.  The Tiger defense continued to stand strong, however keeping the game scoreless headed into the second intermission.

The Lions kept battling to open the third period, seeing all the hard work pay off when Megan Wagner netted her second goal of the season at the 5:13 mark of the final frame. Kaitlin Finnegan picked up her first career point as a Lion on the Wagner goal. RIT pushed back, earning a late power play opportunity, but the defense put their bodies on the line to preserve the shutout.  Bailey Coyne sealed the victory with a late empty netter.

Netminder Annika Asplundh picked up her third career shutout, all have come against the Tigers.
