After an offensive explosion from Lindenwood Friday night, the scoring pace was a bit more normal Saturday afternoon as the Lions earned their second shutout of the season 4-0 to sweep the series against Missouri State at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Lindenwood took a 1-0 lead at the 7:49 mark of the first when
Andy Willis and
Declan Carter set up
Zach Martin for the goal. The Lions added to their lead late in the second when
Vegard Faret hit the back of the cage on a play set up by
Kyler Newman and
Brendan Murphy with 3:48 remaining. Lindenwood pulled away with two more goals in the third.Â
Matt Runyon lit the lamp at the 6:25 mark with help from
Ryan Finnegan and
Blake Finley to make it 3-0, and Faret netted his second of the game with 9:53 remaining, assisted by
Hayden Ursulak and Newman.
The Lions used a balanced offensive attack with 10 different players earning points, and
Cooper Seedott took care of things in goal, stopping all 32 shots he faced as Lindenwood outshot the Bears 52-32 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Lions get a couple of weekends off before beginning play in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) at home February 5-6 against Ohio University. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. Friday night and at 3:10 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center.
