The Lindenwood offense was uncontainable in a 13-3 win over Missouri State in the home opener for men's ice hockey Friday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights,
Brendan Murphy Scored a Hat Trick
Missouri.
The Lions roared to a 4-1 advantage after the opening period, added another six goals in the second, and outpaced the Bears 3-2 in the third.Â
Brendan Murphy scored a hat trick, and
Ryan Finnegan contributed with a goal and three assists.Â
Colton Craigo and
Zach Martin each lit the lamp short-handed and
Sam Watson scored his first career goal in a Lindenwood jersey.
The Lions outshot Missouri State 60-20 and
Cooper Seedott stopped 17 of those 20 in the victory. While impressive, the 13-goal output was not a program record. Men's ice hockey posted 16 goals twice, in 2003 against Kansas, and against Robert Morris in 2007.
Lindenwood improved to 3-0 on the young season. The Lions go for the series sweep Saturday afternoon with the puck drop at 3:10 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
