The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (1-0, 0-0 MIVA) opened the season with a 3-2 victory against Georgetown College (0-2, 0-0 MSC) on Friday.
A.J. Lewis paced the squad with 16 kills in the match.
Diego Negron was second with 10, and
Phil Swartz and
Alex Pappas recorded seven each. As a unit, the Lions notched nine total team blocks in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lindenwood outscored Georgetown College, 25-14 in the first set. Lewis led with eight kills, while Swartz added three.
- In an equally dominating second set, the Lions were buoyed by Lewis and Swartz's three kills. Negron added a service ace as the team finished off the set 25-14.
- The Lions dropped the third and fourth sets, 25-23, and 25-22, respectively.
- The squad pulled away late in the final set to secure the win, with a 15-10 margin, giving them three sets won to the Tigers' two.
- The final set saw Jeremy Kirch lead with two kills. Negron and Connor Sheehan each recorded a service ace. Negron added a solo block, while Logan Nash and Cal Werths combined on a block.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
- Lewis' 16 kills led the team. Negron also recorded double-digit kills with 10.
- Sheehan amassed 44 of the team's 48 set assists.
- Negron tallied three service aces in the win over the Tigers.
- Sheehan also led the squad with seven digs. Seven different Lindenwood players notched four or more digs.
