The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (2-0, 0-0 MIVA) picked up its second win in as many games, after taking down King (Tenn.) (2-1, 0-0 CC), 3-0.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions dominated the first set, 25-19, as A.J. Lewis picked up four kills and Alex Pappas and Diego Negron assisted on a block.
- The team got off to a 6-1 lead, and never trailed in the first set. After widening the lead, 17-11, King (Tenn.) took a timeout, but the Lions closed out strong and secured the first set lead.
- The second set included much of the same dominant play by Lindenwood, leading by as much as eight on numerous occasions.
- Phil Swartz and Negron tied with three kills each, to lead the Lions. Pappas and Lewis also added two kills.
- Lindenwood made quick work of the match, closing it out in the third set, by a score of 25-19.
- Swartz, Negron, and Lewis each led with three kills in the final period. Pappas and Negron also recorded two block assists.
- In each of the first two matches of the season, the Lions have jumped out to 2-0 leads.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
- Lewis and Swartz were tied for a team lead in kills with nine. Negron was second with eight.
- Connor Sheehan registered a team-leading 26 set assists.
- Negron had aces on eight of his serves, to bolster the squad. Lewis also registered three service aces.
- Kyle Deutschmann led with 17 receptions, while Swartz notched 13.
- Pappas and Negron tallied three block assists. Sheehan had two, and Cal Werths had one.
