The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (11-6, 5-2 GLVC) earned a 3-0 sweep against Trevecca Nazarene (12-8, 4-5 GMAC) after a 3-0 loss to Ferris State (13-4, 6-2 GLIAC) on the opening day of the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament on Friday.
MATCH ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions held close in a 3-0 loss to the Bulldogs in the team's first match at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament, tallying one more kill than the opposition, 36-35. Lindenwood also recorded three more assists and 13 more digs, while finishing with just one less ace and three less blocks.
In the first set, which the Lions dropped 25-17, the team amassed nine kills for their lowest total of any of the three sets. Lindenwood trailed Ferris State, 16-9, midway through the first set before putting together a 3-1 run on kills from
Jenna Garrett,
Jessie Seidel, and
Rachel Mitts. Unable to close the gap, the Lions would fall to 0-1 in the match with a first set defeat.
Lindenwood totaled 12 kills en route to the closest finish of any of the sets against Ferris State, falling 25-22. A
Mackenzi Sifuentes kill and an attack error by the opposition gave the Lions a 7-6 lead early on in set two. After an extended scoring run by the Bulldogs, the Lions would trail 11-7. Following a timeout, Lindenwood scored two straight points, to trail by two (11-9). A back-and-forth finish to the set saw Ferris State take a 2-0 advantage.
The third and final set saw the Lions push their kill total to 15 in a 25-21 loss. The team trailed by nine points, 22-13, before scoring eight of the next 10 points.
Audrey Weber's two kills highlighted the 8-2 run for the Lions. Lindenwood would suffer a sweep after the third set loss against Ferris State.

Abby VanBuskirk helped assist the Lions to a sweep of the Trojans with a career-best 31 assists on Friday, in the team's second match of the day. Lindenwood finished with more kills, 40-35, aces, 12-3, blocks, 5-4, and assists, 35-24, than Trevecca Nazarene. Both teams were equal on digs at 34-34.
Finishing with a match-high 18 kills as a team in a 25-23 first set win, the Lions battled back from down 4-0 to tie up the set a 5-5. After going down by a score of 13-10, a 6-0 run by the Lindenwood offense, helped by kills from
Rebecca Janke and VanBuskirk, put the team up 16-13. The Trojans would battle back each time Lindenwood looked to extend its lead, and with the score at 23-23, the Lions took the final two points on a kill from
Nyah Wilson and an attack error by the opposing unit.
For the second-consecutive set, the Lions would trail early, and the team was helped by two different 5-0 scoring runs en route to a second set victory, 25-21. Tied up, 13-13, Lindenwood rattled off five-straight points to take an 18-13 lead. After the opposing team shortened the lead to one point, 22-21, the Lions took the final three points and the second set.
Lindenwood jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the third set in a reverse showing from the first two sets. This time, the Trojans would battle back, and held a 10-8 advantage midway through the final set. A match full of runs witnessed the Lions put together a 7-0 scoring slate, in which
Audrey Weber tallied three kills, to steal a 15-10 lead. Trevecca Nazarene attempted one final comeback, and closed the Lindenwood lead to two points (16-14), before the Lions rattled off nine consecutive points to earn a win in Hammond, Ind.

- Rebecca Janke finished with a team-best 10 kills in the win.
- Jessie Seidel (4), Mazkenzi Sifuentes (3), and Nyah Wilson (2) were the team's leaders in service aces.
- Janke also held the team-high in blocks (3).
- Abby VanBuskirk posted a career and match-high in assists with 31.
- Wilson and VanBuskirk each finished with six digs to lead the Lions.
