The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (13-7, 6-3 GLVC) suffered a four set road loss to Missouri S&T (15-7, 8-3 GLVC) on the road on Saturday.
MATCH OVERVIEW
The Lions suffered their first GLVC loss since Oct. 2 at No. 14 Lewis. All three of the team's conference losses this season have come on the road, as the team is 5-0 at home against GLVC squads. In the match, Lindenwood finished with a .146 hitting percentage, while the Miners accumulated a .336 attack percentage.
Lindenwood and Missouri S&T battled early in the first set, recording five ties, all of which came before the 7-6 lead by the Miners. After a kill from
Mackenzi Sifuentes off of an
Abby VanBuskirk assist evened the set at 6-6, Missouri S&T would retake the lead and not look back. The Miners were able to fend off numerous Lions comeback attempts throughout the opening set.
The second set mirrored much of the same tendencies from the first set, with Lindenwood battling to keep it even with Missouri S&T, before the Miners pulled away midway through the set. After two-straight errors from the opposition tied up the second set at 8-8, a 4-0 stretch from S&T gave the team the lead they needed.
After falling down 2-0 in the match, the Lions responded with a resilient 25-22 third set victory to avoid being swept. After a 6-0 run from the Miners to put the team up 13-8, a S&T error and Sifuentes Kill brought the set to 13-10 with the Lions down by just three points. Another Miners spurt extended the team's lead to seven, 19-10. Lindenwood would rattle off 12 of the next 14 points in dominant comeback fashion to take the third set victory.
A 25-18 fourth set gave the Miners the match victory. In the fourth set, the Lions were stifled offensively, and were held to a .069 hitting percentage. The team amassed nine kills in the final set to the Miners' 14.
