The Lindenwood men's soccer team (6-6-2, 6-5-2 GLVC) battled to a 1-1 draw with No. 1 Indianapolis (12-0-2, 10-0-2 GLVC) on Friday night from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
MATCH OVERVIEW
The two teams engaged in a defensive battle early, compiling five shots across the first 17 minutes of play. Shortly after, the Greyhounds earned a penalty kick, but goalkeeper
Zachary Martin made the right read, diving to his right and kept the game scoreless. Martin continued the strong play throughout the half, making three saves, which helped see the game remain scoreless heading into halftime.
Eight minutes into the second half, it would be Lindenwood's turn at a penalty kick as
Joshua Scholl was taken down inside the box.
Gabriel Miranda was stopped by the UIndy keeper, however, seeing the game continue scoreless. Just five minutes later, the Greyhounds would get another chance from the penalty spot, this time converting, taking a 1-0 lead.
UIndy carried the lead late into the match, but the Lions earned a late free kick with just over a minute remaining. On the ensuing free kick,
Gabriel Herrera sent the ball into the box, which eventually found the foot of
Milaim Hysa. This marked his first-career goal as a Lion.
Isaac Hoog and
Alex Imig picked up assists on the goal.
The game remained tied and needed overtime.
In the extra 20 minutes, UIndy compiled seven of the eight total shots, but Martin made four saves and the Lindenwood defense stood tall, seeing the game reach its final result, a 1-1 draw.
