The Lindenwood women's soccer team (4-10-1, 4-8-1 GLVC) fell by a score of 2-1 to Indianapolis (10-2-2, 8-2-2 GLVC) on Friday night from Hunter Stadium.
MATCH OVERVIEW
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead, finding the back of the net just over a minute into me match. Indianapolis pushed for another goal throughout the half, but goalkeeper
Erika Anstine stopped the next six Greyhound shots, keeping the Lions within striking distance.
Maggie Weller pounced on a mistake by the UIndy goalkeeper in the 35th minute, as she failed to pick up the ball inside the box, and Weller made no mistake. The St. Peter's Mo. native netted her team-leading third goal of the season, making the score 1-1 with just over 10 minutes to go in the half.
That would be the score heading into halftime.
Once again, the Greyhounds got off to a quick start, this time to begin the second half. UIndy regained its lead at the 50:42 mark of the match, going up 2-1. After the early goal, scoring chances were hard to come by in the half, as each team tightened up defensively.
The Lions made a late push in the second half, but a late attempt by
Bailey Bologna was blocked. The ensuing corner kick was cleared away and the Greyhounds picked up the 2-1 win.
