The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (10-5, 5-2 GLVC) moved to 5-0 at home this season with a 3-0 sweep against Quincy (7-10, 4-5 GLVC) on Friday.
MATCH OVERVIEW
Lindenwood secured its seventh 3-0 sweep of a team this season, including the fourth in five home matches. The Lions are 5-0 at home, all five of which have come against conference opponents, as the team owns a 15-2 advantage in the friendly confines of Hyland Arena in 2021.
After trailing, 20-12, in the opening set, the Lions rattled off six of the next seven points to close the gap to three points, 21-18.
Nyah Wilson tacked on two kills as the Lions battled back against the Hawks. Down, 23-20, three-consecutive attack errors from Quincy (including back-to-back blocks by
Mackenzi Sifuentes) tied the match at 23-23. The Lions would ultimately come out of the first set with a 1-0 lead after kills from Sifuentes and Wilson.
Mirroring the first set, the Lions were stymied early by the Hawks, going down 7-1 as a result. Lindenwood would hang around and a 4-0 run dissolved the Quincy lead as the Lions evened up the set, 10-10.
Madilyn Dement and
Allie Otten both tacked on kills to even up the second set. Sitting tied up, 13-13, a 7-0 run put together by the Lions helped to build a dominant lead for the team. Of the last 15 points in the second set, Lindenwood secured 12 of them.
Neither team was able to gain a large lead in the final set, until a 4-0 stretch by Quincy gave the team a 16-11 advantage. Continuing their trend of battling back, the Lions would not let the Hawks run away with the set, and instead tied the third at 23-23 on two-straight attack errors from Quincy. Trailing 24-23 for the second time in three sets, Wilson would tack on two kills paired with a Sifuentes service ace to give the Lions the win.
