The Lindenwood football team (4-2, 2-0 GLVC) earned a 33-28 win over Quincy (3-3, 1-1 GLVC) on Saturday at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
Kai Ross tied a school record with three interceptions in the game.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions opened the game with an eight-play 75-yard drive, which was capped off with a 13-yard touchdown pass from
Cade Brister to
Clint Sigg. Quincy tied the game at the 9:33 mark of the first quarter to make it 7-7. After a Lindenwood turnover, Ross forced a fumble to set up a long touchdown drive. The Lions took a 14-7 lead after
Robert Giaimo bulled his way in on a two-yard touchdown score.
The Hawks answered again to tie the game at 14-14, but they kicked it to the dangerous
Spencer Redd who returned it 97 yards for a touchdown. Lindenwood kept the seven-point lead heading into halftime, after Ross picked off his first pass of the game to end a Quincy drive late in the second quarter.
Just 11 seconds into the second half, Ross snagged his second pick of the game, but both teams traded possession for the majority of the third quarter. Ross was able to tally his third interception of the game near the halfway point of the third quarter, but the Lions handed the ball right back on the next play. Quincy tied the game at the 5:35 mark of the third quarter, as the game remained tied heading into the fourth frame.
After a 21-yard punt return by Redd, the Lions went on an efficient drive. Brister led the Lions down the field in seven plays, as he found Sigg in the end zone for a touchdown. The Lindenwood defense was solid all game, and forced a quick three-and-out. Brister hit three targets on the drive for big plays. Sigg caught an 18-yard pass,
Jaden Kohls picked up 24 yards through the air, and
Glen Gibbons capped off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown catch to put the Lions ahead 33-21.
Quincy scored with less than two minutes remaining, but could not complete the comeback as the Lions recovered the onside kick and held on for the win. Giaimo tallied his third-straight 100-yard game, as he compiled 119 yards on the ground with another 17 in the passing game. Brister was efficient once again, as he completed 23 passes on 28 attempts for a total of 285 yards and three scores through the air. Sigg registered 70 yards receiving and two scores, while
Alex Faddoul (7-74), and Gibbons (6-63) were key receivers on offense.
The defensive unit played quality football all day.
Drew Seers registered 12 tackles, including one tackle for loss.
Sterlin Williams bull rushed his way to five tackles, two of which were in the backfield, as he added a forced fumble.
David Knox flew around from his defensive tackle spot, as the senior compiled seven tackles. Redd provided a spark to the Lions, as he registered 163 yards on kickoff returns, with another 30 on punt returns. Redd moved into second place in the school's record book with his second-career kickoff return for a touchdown.
